We Reduce, Reuse, Recyle

We reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle everywhere possible — and we are always looking for more ways to do so.

We are making our stores more energy efficient, including improving efficiencies of refrigeration systems, retrofitting existing stores with LED lights and utilizing them in new stores for reduced kilowatt usage, as well as choosing systems with lower energy demands.

We are reducing our environmental impact by using environmentally friendly solutions and materials, and sourcing materials for new construction regionally, reducing freight mileage.

SEAFOOD SUSTAINABILITY

Fishing has been a unique way of life for people here on the Gulf Coast for generations. As the Gulf Coast’s grocer, and avid fishers ourselves, we feel a particular commitment to preserve and protect our seafood industry, which plays such an important role in our culture and economy.

“I can honestly say you will not find anyone with more enthusiasm than we at Rouses have for the people, waterways and fisheries of our Gulf Coast. But our commitment doesn’t end at our coast. We’re mindful of how all of our seafood is caught and farmed.” – Donny Rouse, CEO, 3rd Generation

We also source sustainable wild-caught fish, and farmed fish and shellfish managed under environmentally responsible practices.

PRESERVING OUR GULF COAST TRADITIONS

We’re dedicated to preserving our Gulf Coast traditions and working with our local farmers. Working with local growers also minimizes our carbon and emissions footprint.

We work with growers nationally and internationally who are committed to sustainable farming and using growing practices that minimize water use, like Local Bounti. Local Bounti is fully committed to the sustainable farming of produce that grows in the Southeast region, cutting thousands of miles in delivery, and measuring the usage of water, electricity, natural gas and fertilizer through the use of science and technology.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION PRACTICES

We partner with beef and pork ranchers and producers who practice cattle management and sustainable production practices, and with Tyson, which is leading efforts to support sustainable agriculture and investing millions of dollars to accelerate the adoption and implementation of climate-smart practices and to support underserved producers and U.S. rural and agricultural communities.
