Cashiers play an important role in the success of our business, influencing customer experiences at the front end point-of-sale. At Rouses, all customers are treated with courtesy and respect and transactions are processed quickly and accurately. The position reports to the Customer Service Manager.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting each customer with, “Good (morning, afternoon, evening)! Welcome to Rouses!”
  • Engaging in appropriate conversations with customers and thanking them for choosing to shop with us
  • Processing items quickly and efficiently, according to defined processes
  • Bagging purchased items carefully, according to the defined process
  • Protecting our assets by checking the bottom of buggies for items, carefully processing sales (with attention to processing cash sales), and identifying potential theft concerns
  • Offering carry-out service appropriately
  • Understanding the store layout to easily locate products for customers
  • Notifying management of customer inquiries/complaints, potential pricing issues, product re-shops, change/coin needs, and/or other situations
  • Maintaining a professional personal brand representation in the proper Rouse’s uniform
  • Reporting to work on time and as scheduled
  • Cleaning assigned check stand area
  • Other duties, as assigned


  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Possess required permits/certifications to work in a food retail environment and/or sell alcohol/tobacco, or the ability to acquire them within 90 days of hire
  • Enjoy interactions with customers, maintaining a positive and pleasant demeanor at all times
  • Basic math skills
  • Able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to stoop, squat, reach and maneuver to move product, boxes, bags, shelving, carts and equipment
  • Able to lift objects weighing 50 lbs.
