Down Home Biscuits
Ingredients
4 cups self-rising flour
¾ cup shortening or cold butter
1½ cups milk
4 tablespoons sugar
Directions
Preheat oven to 400ºF.
Cut the shortening or butter into the flour in a large mixing bowl using a pastry blender or fork until the fat is worked in and the mixture is composed of coarse crumbs. Add sugar and stir in milk to form a dough. Let rest for 5 minutes before baking.
Lightly grease a baking sheet with vegetable oil spray. Use a soup spoon or tablespoon-sized cookie scoop to drop portions of the dough onto the baking sheet. Bake until lightly brown, about 8 to 10 minutes. Serve hot.
