Turmeric Tea

This deep, golden-orange spice has been used in Indian, Thai and Persian cooking for hundreds of years. A relative of ginger, turmeric has medicinal value as well. Curcumin is a component of turmeric that has been most studied for its anti-inflammatory effects. Turmeric is also used in Ayurvedic medicine.

Ingredients

¼ cup water

1½-inch piece fresh turmeric, peeled and grated

1½-inch piece ginger, peeled and grated

1 cardamom pod

1 cinnamon stick

3 black peppercorns

½ tablespoon honey

1 cup milk (or nut milk)

1 black tea bag

 

Directions

In a small pan over low heat, add the water, turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, peppercorns and honey. Bring to a simmer, then pour in milk, and add the tea bag. Pour through a fine-mesh strainer right into a cup, and drink while hot.
